OF CANADA

1. The Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada Dress Regulations are
issued on authority of the Commanding Officer.

4. Suggestions for amendments shall be forwarded through normal channels to Battalion Headquarters, attention RSM.
PREFACE
COMMANDING OFFICER
DRESS POLICY GUIDLINES
1. The uniform of a military force is the outward symbol of its commitment, identity and ethos. Coupled with overall appearance, the uniform is the most powerful single expression of pride by the individual Regimental member and is the primary means by which the public image of the Regiment is fashioned.
2. The dress of the Regiment is based upon the dress of the Scottish highlands and draws its traditions from the customs of the highlanders and the regiments of infantry raised there, especially from the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders. Every effort will be made to preserve and enhance these traditions.
3. All Cameron Highlanders are reminded that the primary dress of the Regiment is, and always has been the KILT. It will be worn by all ranks on every possible occasion unless otherwise ordered by the Commanding Officer, either in Routine Orders or otherwise. Great pains must be taken in putting on the kilt for while no soldier looks smarter than a well turned out highlander, none looks worse than a slovenly highlander.
4. A good turn out is obtained by well fitted and equally well maintained kit. This helps maintain a high level of esprit de corps within the Regiment, and a good name, image and professional appearance to those who are observing the Regiment or its members. Individual members are responsible for maintaining all of their personal kit in good order, especially the items of Regimental kit provided to them.
5. Approval of new items and orders of dress, or modifications to existing items and orders, shall recognize the need to provide protection and comfort over a wide range of climatic conditions and to support the complete spectrum of activity from ceremonial duties through to strenuous labour.
6. The inherent difference between men and women will be given due consideration when new items of dress, or changes to dress policy, are proposed.
7. Rank insignia must be easily recognizable and clearly differentiate between ranks to promote recognition and the paying of compliments while in garrison. While in the field, leaders still need to be recognizable by their soldiers and those with whom they may come into contact.
8. To facilitate enforcement of dress policy, the number of optional dress items shall be kept to a minimum. Optional items of dress shall meet approved standards of Regimental pattern and material and, whenever possible, shall be obtained from a single supplier.
C.W. Buchanan
Lieutenant Colonel
Commanding Officer

REGIMENTAL SERGEANT MAJOR
GENERAL DRESS NOTES
1. Nametags and other accoutrements shall be worn IAW CF Dress Instructions A-AD-265-000/AG-001 2001-06-15, and detailed Unit Dress Instructions.
2. If a civilian backpack is worn while in uniform it shall hang suspended by both straps square on your back or be carried in the left hand.
3. Hair colour shall be no more than two shades off of the natural hair colour. The RSM shall be the final arbiter of what comprises two shades. The general guideline is that your appearance on the CF ID Card must match your current appearance.
4. The pleats of a cummerbund should always be worn with the openings up, thus the term “crumb catcher.” The CF Service Dress Doublet is what used to be refereed to as the DEU Cut-away Tunic.
5. The CF ID Card is always be carried, hair to be kept neat and cut in accordance with CF Dress Instructions and ID Disks should be worn once issued.
6. The Infantry Officer, CWO, WO and Sgt rank Sash is worn IAW CF Dress Instructions 2001-06-15 paragraph 3-7-10.
7. The ribbon bow at the rear of the Khaki Balmoral is to be worn on the outside.
8. Captains and Sergeants shall obtain Full Diced Hose within six months of promotion.
9. The Corporal of the Year may wear the Sgian Dhu in all orders of dress as that of MCpls.
10. Strive to present a proper military bearing – you are a Cameron – look proud!
